Happy summer everyone!
Things may seem pretty quiet around evac lately.
The summer has brought less music shows and more meet-ups, art sales (lovingly dubbed Yart Sales), gallery drop-ins and vinyl listening parties, along with planning, lots of planning.
We've decided on a theme for the next art exhibit, here in what some may refer to as the Old East Village.
This neighbourhood has been undergoing some serious changes, both visually, economically and structurally.
Are we gaining businesses or losing ground, becoming safer or getting hungrier, cleaning up or losing identity? We want to hear and see the things you love, the things you miss and the things you see on the streets.
Please submit to our newest exhibit
--------- I ♥ E.O.A! -------
The EVAC board meets every Sunday at 6pm. If you are interested in learning more, booking a show, donating or getting involved please contact us!
We are a cooperatively run, grassroots organization committed to providing a safe, inclusive, respectful, creative environment to our members and greater community. Our programming often reflects the needs, desires and struggles of people in the neighbourhood. Our goal is to not be an exclusive art gallery for the wealthy elite, but a creative space where music can be made, canvases painted, ideas shared, minds enriched and hearts warmed, no matter your age or income.
Our open hours are Thursday 11am-6pm and Friday 5-8pm as well as the occasional Saturday morning.
EVAC can be found East of Adelaide at 757 Dundas Street.

Consider this a call out for photos, paintings, sculptures, textiles, writings, films, performances and songs reflecting the people, places and images from this neighbourhood. Contact us to get involved! The event will be held sometime in September. Submission Deadline August 27th.
In keeping with these topics and ideas, EVAC is planning to host a series of film workshops over the next few months. These events are free. The first one is a documentary about the gentrification of Queen West called "Last Call at the Gladstone" screening Aug 12th. The film will be followed by a discussion about the gentrification of the east end in London and what that means to those that live, work, play and call the east end home.
Here is the upcoming film schedule:
* Wed Aug 25th Theses on Feuerbach. 6:30 - NOTE: TIME/LOCATION CHANGE (NOT AT EVAC)
* Thurs Aug 26th Hot August Film Night - Save Indonesia's Rainforests - 7pm @ EVAC
* Thurs Sept 9th Theses on Feuerbach 2nd session. 6:30
* Thurs Sept 23th - Literary Film Workshop TBA 6:30

August 26 - Hot August Film Night - Save Indonesia's Rainforests - 7pm
Screening two films about rainforest destruction, endangered species and habitat loss.
"Orang Rimba" tells the story of Indigenous peoples impacted by deforestation.
"Green" tells the emotional story of a female orangutan in Indonesia and how the everyday products we buy here at home are affecting beautiful creatures like her. Sponsored by Rainforest Action Network these screenings focus on the effects of deforestation on Indigenous people and endangered animals in Indonesia's rainforests. Afterwards, there will be a group discussion on what we can do about it.
